San Antonio, Texas is the 7th largest city in the United States, and the 2nd largest in Texas. It’s name comes from the 1691 missionary/explorer who discovered the natives living near the San Antonio River. Texas has a rich history, but it’s mostly remembered through The Battle of the Alamo. The Alamo is the most popular tourist attraction in Texas.
Texas became an official state in 1845. It sits just under 800 feet above sea level and serves up a humid subtropical climate. It’s economical base is rooted in financial services, government, health care, and tourism.
The South Texas Medical Center is a massive campus dedicated to research and health care. San Antonio is also the home of the US Military Medical Training, the largest medical education center in the world. The Air Force runs their basic military training there as well.
There are 31 higher education institutions and more than 30 private or charter schools.
