Location is very convenient if one works in/around River North; eight-minute walk down Kinzie and infinitely quieter. Building is new, well-built, and well-appointed. Pool deck and grills are great and building staff are very friendly.

I'd tell them it's pretty good, although the building is very young and acts the part sometimes. That being said, my neighbors are pretty quiet, and even if they do play loud music it's off or turned down by 9 at night. There are plenty of conveniences right here in the building, from the dry cleaning downstairs to washer/dryers in each apartment to the full fitness center on the eighth floor. Oh, and there's a coffee machine down there, too :) You need a ZipCar? There's one right downstairs or nearby at Jewel/Osco. You take public transportation? We're in walking distance to four lines (Brown, Pink/Green and Blue). Like I said, modern and convenient. Pretty good place to live.

I've lived in Habitat properties before, and I could tell walking in through the door the first time that these properties were professionally run, by people who know how to treat the residents.

Moving in was a complete hassle as we had to spend a day or two cleaning the entire apartment - nothing was clean. Mouse droppings in cupboards, windows had several years of dirt on them, floors were grimy, there were cat toys under stove from previous occupant. We tried to get MAC to send a cleaner out to do this, but it took nearly a month for someone from the cleaning company to contact us. Whoever installed some of the fittings was sloppy - some venetian blinds were installed so badly that a light pull on the cord made them fall out of the ceiling, and a ceiling fan was improperly installed. One of the light bulbs was already out when we moved in too - overall we got the impression that nobody has done a serious check over the apartment. Some maintenance which should have been done wasn't - there were mouse halls in the wall and tiles are coming up. Some things were rectified promptly, but most weren't. We have also been hearing some sort of animal scratching in the wall but since it hasn't been coming into the apartment nobody in the office seemed interested in doing anything about it. This is really as much of a problem for MAC as us, especially if it damages electrical wiring or is getting into other people's apartments - we're happy to participate in the maintenance of the buildings, but it has been difficult to know who the buck stops with at MAC.
